CLOSURE ALERT
Ania Strasser,
Deptford is Changing
ORAL HISTORY
The New Cross Tyre shop was still operating in 2014, but closed for good soon after the building works. The Tyre Shop came up in conversation during the Deptford is Changing project with one participant wondering why it shut. She said:
"That shop's been there forever! Did he have to go? Was he outpriced? Did he have to move because they'll put housing there? Did he have to go because he doesn't fit with the image of the development? I don't understand because he was always busy. I would like to know what happened to him!" (Natasha in Deptford is Changing, 2020, p. 170).
RELATED INFORMATION
Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged people to go back to work at the end of August by stating: “I want people to go back to work as safely as possible”. His vision was that of a “world where the British people are able to shake hands- that’s what we are aiming for”.
ARCHIVAL FICTIONS
There are three types of tyre inflation: correct, under and over-inflation. Inflation often refers to a general increase, so we are looking at the potential of excessive increase or insufficient increase in air pressure. Other examples of under and over-inflation include: ‘caffeine-filled air’; ‘proper bants’; ‘watercooler conversations’ and ‘hearing buzzwords’.
