Wash your hands

Daniel Maclise (1806-1870), Peter the Great at Deptford Dockyward

Unknown, but departure on 21st April 1698

He - Пётр I Алексеевич - walks along the street. ‘My feet are light’, he says. They hurt our hands when he takes a step, I hear. The cobblestones break. “The Tsar of Muscovy worked with his own hands as hard as any man in the yard”, they said of his visit. “Introduced the West in the East”, they said of him. “They named him the Great because of the size of his feet”, they added. Or maybe that was just fiction.

They named a street after his visit, Czar Street, but this information might be out of date due to the coronavirus (Covid-19). Confirm details with organisers, or alternatively, visit his statue on the corner of Deptford Creek.
